Sponsored by the Serbian-American Alliance of New England (SANE), on Saturday, June 2, 2007, Sayat Nova Armenian Dance Company was invited to participate in a collaborative performance with the Serbian Dance Company Grachanitsa. As the mostly Serbian crowd filled the seats at the International School of Boston (Ecole Internationale de Boston) in Cambridge, MA, you could feel the anticipation in the air as the crowd wondered what was to come. What did SNDC Director Apo Ashjian and Grachanitsa Director Djordje Koldzic have in store for them?

The audience was not disappointed. The costumes were colorful and the music captivating. Both dance companies received loud applause and standing ovations as they took turns presenting dances and steps from different regions of their countries. The performance ended with the two groups performing steps from both cultures together, drawing huge applause and accolades from the audience. It was evident from the huge smiles on their faces that both the dance company members and the audience thoroughly enjoyed the performance, which was followed by a reception in the nearby St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church.

The audience was also treated to a performance by a Serbian children’s dance group.

The Sayat Nova Dance Company of Boston welcomed the opportunity to share its culture and rich Armenian heritage with a non-Armenian audience. On the eve of June 2, 2007, Sayat Nova Dance Company stayed true to its mission ‘to preserve and promote Armenian culture’. They did so in a true Sayat Nova fashion…with pride and unrelenting energy...
